New activity codes - innovations for businesses

On January 1, 2025 a new classification of activities – PKD 2025 (PKD – Polska Klasyfikacja Działalności) came into force. This decision is dictated by changes in the classification of the European Union (Statystyczna Klasyfikacja Działalności Gospodarczych w UE).
The changes affect almost all registered businesses in Poland: whether you have a sole proprietorship (JDG) or a legal entity (the most common form of which is spółka z o.o.), within 2 years, i.e. until December 31, 2026, you are obliged to bring your activities in accordance with the new classification, to update the codes.
Entrepreneurs can do this by updating the information in CEIDG. For legal entities, the procedure will require changes in the KRS.
It should be noted that an automatic transition is planned in accordance with the compliance keys of old and new codes for entrepreneurs who do not update the data themselves within the prescribed period.
As for our part, we believe that you should not wait for automatic changes, as they may not take into account the peculiarities of the business. A situation may arise where one new code is not enough, or it still does not fit. Moreover, the wrong choice of an activity code may entail serious consequences in the form of a fine or even imprisonment of up to 2 years.
