How to Register a Sole Proprietorship (JDG) in Poland in 2025 – Step-by-Step Guide

Main > Blog

Starting a business in Poland has never been easier and the sole proprietorship (JDG) remains the fastest and most accessible option for individual entrepreneurs. However, even this simple process requires proper preparation.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through registering your JDG online in 2025 and explain how to avoid the most common mistakes.

Step 1: Prepare Before Registering Your JDG

Before submitting your CEIDG application, gather the key information you’ll need:

📍 Business address

You can use:

  • your home address
  • a virtual office
  • a real office or coworking space

Important: The address you enter in CEIDG becomes public. To avoid having your home address visible in the business registry, opt for a virtual office.

📌 PKD codes (business activity classification)

You can select multiple codes.

The main code should reflect your core activity.

Your PKD code determines your VAT obligations and may affect your eligibility for tax benefits.

📅 Start date of your activity

If you choose today, your tax and social security obligations begin immediately.

You can also set a future date (e.g. next week or next month) to give yourself more time to prepare.

💡 Tip: Choosing a start date between the 2nd and 5th of the month can give you nearly a full month of ZUS contribution relief.

📑 Taxation method

You choose your tax regime during registration, but you can change it until the 20th day of the following month.

The most common options include:

  • general tax scale (based on income brackets)
  • lump-sum tax (ryczałt)
  • tax card (karta podatkowa – limited availability)

💡 Tip: Preparing all your details in advance will make the registration process take 10–15 minutes instead of several days.

Step 2: Submit the CEIDG Application Online

JDG registration in Poland is handled via the official government portal: biznes.gov

One online form includes:

✔ Registration of your sole proprietorship
✔ Issuance of NIP and REGON numbers
✔ Registration with ZUS (social insurance)
✔ Notification to the tax office (Urząd Skarbowy)
✔ Option to submit a VAT-R form (if applicable)

How to sign the application:

  1. Trusted Profile (Profil Zaufany), fastest and fully online (via ePUAP)
  2. e-ID or qualified electronic signature
  3. In person at your local municipal office – if you don’t use online methods

💡 Pro tip: By registering online, there’s no need to visit the tax office or ZUS , your data is transferred automatically.

Step 3: When Does Your Business Become Active?

🔹 If you choose today as the start date – your JDG becomes active immediately.
🔹 If you select a future date – your JDG will become active on that day.

Once active:

✅ You can issue invoices and sign contracts
✅ Tax and social security obligations begin

⚠ Note: Even if you haven’t started operations yet, your JDG is considered active from the registered start date.

Most Common Mistakes When Registering a JDG

🚨 Mistake 1: Wrong start date
Too early? You’ll have to pay ZUS before your business starts generating income.
Too late? You’re ready to work, but legally not allowed to issue invoices.

🚨 Mistake 2: Using your home address publicly
Don’t want your home address in the registry? Use a virtual office.

🚨 Mistake 3: Forgetting to register for VAT

You’re required to register if:

  1. your revenue exceeds 200,000 PLN/year
  2. you provide consulting or advisory services
  3. you work with B2B clients, VAT may be necessary from day one
